In the past Pepsi Cola started using laser marking and coding technology for laser benefits such as little maintenance and absence of waste products, fumes, solvents or inks

However these previous laser machines didn’t fill the quality ambition of a higher performance and the machines many times didn’t work as they were supposed to do

Customer:
Pepsi Cola is the number one soft drink brand/distributor/manufacturer in Egypt. As a matter of fact the mineral drinking water Aquafina was introduced in Kansas in 1994 and reached national distribution in 1997. Since its debut, Aquafina has won over customers with its great taste and purity. Aquafina is currently America’s best selling national brand of bottled water based on 2003 sales volume.

Case study:
The following story belongs to the beverage sector and is about the selling and installation of a Macsa Laser by our local distribution partner Dani Pack. More concretely we’re talking about the FS 1010 Plus-shortwave machine (9,3 microns) installed at the Pepsi Cola factory plant in Cairo (Egypt) where the mineral drinking water ‘Aquafina’ is bottled and afterwards marked with a Macsa Laser.

The customer required:
In the past Pepsi Cola started using laser marking and coding technology for laser benefits such as little maintenance and absence of waste products, fumes, solvents or inks. However these previous laser machines didn’t fill the quality ambition of a higher performance and the machines many times didn’t work as they were supposed to do. This situation finally incited the company to make a change and opt for the installation of a Macsa laser marking and coding system and thus get a higher resolution quality at the same time as avoiding any more headaches caused by line interruptions as a result of another machine breakdown.

Macsa’s proposal:
Note that mineral waters are often cold-filled which means that codes may need to be applied to wet material and this is of course of no problem for laser which enables easy, permanent and excellent marking with high definition thanks to Crystal Font. This software increases maximum coding speeds and enhances code readability on transparent substrates such as PET. Macsa laser assures a reliable operation in often harsh and high speed environments.

In a static position the Macsa laser marks at a line speed between 12000 and 18000 PET bottles per hour. The 0,5 and 1,5-liter bottles get marked with a two-line message of 15 characters (the second in Arab!).

The customer is satisfied because the result of the laser marking process is really impressing.
